Some people, on hearing that I work with a lot of small children, express the view that I must either be a saint or mad - and they are only half-joking. The truth is, I love working with children because they have this wonderful ability to live completely in the moment. You only have to watch a child at play to know what absolute joy feels like. And the reason I love photographing families? It's because, as parents, when we jump right in and play with our children - whether it's making funny faces at a giggling baby, or throwing our toddler in the air, or racing, running spinning and twirling, or taking part in a no-holds-barred tickle-fest with our children on the bed - we are drawn right in to that moment of pure delight. And if I'm standing in just the right position, I get to capture a glimpse of those precious moments with a click of my shutter.
Caught up in the moment
There were precious moments aplenty when I spent a fun-filled hour with the lovely Kneen family on Wandsworth Common. The soft morning light gave us a gorgeous glow as we visited all the family's favourite spots.
And little Zach fully embraced the spirit of our adventure, cuddling his adorable baby brother, running through the leaves, throwing himself into his wonderful parents' arms for endless cuddles and kisses. He even helped me take one or two photographs, he made an excellent assistant!
And I don't think I've ever met a more chilled out baby. Gorgeous little Charlie was full of smiles and cuddles for his family and his baby giggles were irresistibly infectious! This family certainly knows how to have a great time!
A great location for family photographs
I like to make my photography sessions fun for the children involved and Wandsworth Common is a great place for family photographs because there is so much to explore: The open fields, ponds with ducks and swans and the secret little paths that weave between these all. As an added benefit most children go there regularly so the familiar scenery and the excitement of being out with their parents is a great way to help them relax into the session.
