This happens to be one of my most favourite family photo sessions.
And I think it’s easy to see why when you look at these photos, but what if I told you that this session did not go according to plan?
The idea was to take some relaxed photos around this family’s beautiful home, but our session was at 4pm in the afternoon on the first really hot day.
The little lady you see laughing in her mum’s arms had just managed to get through a very long day at school and she was exhausted.
So the idea of having to be on her best form for a stranger with a camera was not something she was on board with.
So what do I do when a family photoshoot doesn’t go to plan?
And do you know what? That is absolutely fine. It can be intimidating having a virtual stranger arrive with a camera which you are suddenly expected to perform for.
Sometimes children need a moment to adjust to me being there, so I'll put my camera down and ask about their favourite things. Maybe we'll have a dance party to their new favourite song. Or maybe they can show me their new-found scooting skills? Or just sit in mum's arms and read their favourite book.
All this little girl wanted to do was play on her slide and have a dip in the pool with her dad (just like she does most days after school).
And that was absolutely fine - because look at all the love and laughter and GENUINE memories we captured.
I’m worried my children won’t ‘sit still’ and ‘behave’ for a photoshoot
Here is the beauty of a session with me, good behaviour and cheesy grins are not necessary - infact, if your child needs to spend the entire session in the safety and comfort of your arms, that is (quite simply) how I'll get those natural and connected photos you see here.
Would you like someone to capture some lasting memories for your family?
I am almost fully booked for the summer, so if you want a session you need to get in touch now to snag your spot.
But I will shortly be opening bookings for Autumn. Last year - these booked out almost instantly, so if you want to be first in line - you need to Join the list!
