FAQs

How do I book a session?

You can contact me via email: (kirstyhamiltonphotography@gmail.com) or phone (07881853621) or use the booking form on this site. Once we have agreed a date and time to suit you, I require a 50% deposit to secure your booking. The remainder of the payment is due, in full, the day before your session.

What should I expect from a family session?

After you have booked your session, we'll talk about your family and what you like to do together. Your family is unique and I aim to try and capture that in my sessions. The best photographs tend to be the ones where you are having fun and small children really do not want to sit still and 'say cheese' for very long. So instead of having everyone posing for the camera for the whole session, I encourage you to play or engage in an activity together to get those natural smiles and big, belly laughs. I aim to get photos of the whole family together, as well as individual portraits so you have variety in your final gallery.

What can I expect from maternity and newborn sessions?

There is something wonderful about growing a tiny human inside you and I love photographing expectant mothers. I offer both in-home and outdoor maternity shoots which can be booked on their own or in conjunction with a newborn shoot. Newborn sessions take place in the peace and quiet of your own home. They are slightly longer than family sessions so that you feel relaxed and we have time to incorporate feeds as well as capture your tiny bundle of joy awake and asleep. I do not pose newborns. My sessions tend to be more natural, focusing on the bond between your tiny baby and the other members of your family.

Do I need to tidy up if I am having photos in my house?

I do not carry a lot of equipment with me and prefer to photograph in natural light if at all possible (sometimes, if it is really dark outside, I need to use my flash). When you book your session we'll discuss where the best light is in your home and which rooms you'd most like to have your photos taken in. I usually like to take photos in a few different rooms for the sake of variety. You do not need to de-clutter your entire home before a session, (after all your house reflects your unique personality which is what makes in-home sessions so great) but you just need to be aware that whatever is in the room will end up in the frames I shoot.

What should we wear?

I get asked this question a lot, and my standard response is: whatever you feel comfortable in. I want you to feel relaxed in clothes that reflect your own personal style. If you do want some suggestions, I do not recommend wearing matching colours (like the standard black shirt/jean combination) as it dates your photos. Co-ordinating colours often a good idea, and (if you want to) you can find lots colour palette ideas on Pinterest. My top tip would be to go and look in your wardrobe and pick out clothes that you feel good in, if that happens to be a brightly-coloured top or your child refuses to get dressed unless they are wearing a tiara and spiderman costume combination, I'll find a way to make it work!

What if my child acts up or won't smile for the camera?

I've yet to meet a child (especially small children) who likes to sit still and pose for the camera - my three-year-old's favourite word is currently NO! So during your session we'll find an activity that your children like doing and structure the shoot around that, and if tantrums do occur, we'll simply work around it. Sometimes all we need is to have a little snack break (so be sure to bring some with you!). Nothing bothers me, I'm there to make sure we get some great photos for you, so there is no need for you to stress about how your little ones will react to the camera because I have seen it all before.

What happens if it rains?

We all know just how unpredictable the great British weather can be. If rain looks inevitable then we will rearrange the session at a time to suit you. If it is merely overcast then we will go ahead with the session. At certain times of day, overcast skies are actually preferable for photographers, those clouds keep the harsh sunlight off people's faces and if there are lovely flowers or bright colours about, they really pop in that even light. If it rains unexpectedly during your session, I'll provide you with any photos I managed to capture and we'll take cover and see if we can resume our session as soon as possible.

How does it all work?

After our session, I'll go home and upload your photos onto my computer. I go through and edit all the best ones in colour and in black and white (except for the very rare occasion where a photo does not work in monochrome). Once I am completely happy with all of your edits, I upload them into your personal online gallery and then I email you the access link. Your gallery will contain high resolution images which you are able to download and keep, it is only live for three months so you must make sure you have downloaded all of your favourite photos within that time frame. From the time your gallery goes live, you have two weeks to choose your favourite photos and I order your fine art prints through my specialist lab. These will be delivered to you along with your USB stick which will contain all the photos in your online gallery.

Want some extras?

Would you like your favourite photos mounted or placed in a specially designed presentation folio? Or perhaps you'd like them displayed in a beautifully designed, bespoke album - a real keepsake to treasure through the years. These are all extras you can add on to your basic package, the costs are all detailed above.

How do I book?

If you would like to book a session, I charge a 50% deposit to secure your booking with the remainder due on the day before the session. Galleries will be available to you within 7 days of your session and are up for three months.

*Most people want a session on the weekend as that is when the whole family is around, I structure my appointments on this assumption. I do also take bookings during the week, but these are subject to a £30 surcharge as I have to find childcare for my two little ones.*
