"Amidst the newborn haze, Kirsty captured sweetness, love and most importantly PURE, GENUINE JOY" ~ Felicity
Newborn Sessions with Kirsty Hamilton
Hello! Welcome to my small space on the internet. I’m so happy you are here and I’d really love to work with you.
Creating magical, lasting and above all EMOTION-FILLED memories for families is pretty much what I live for.
If we are going to work together, we should get to know one-another…
My name is Kirsty Hamilton. I’m a mum to two tiny people (Logan, 5 and Calla, 3) and I aim to do for your family the very same thing I do for mine, every single time I pick up my camera: and that is celebrate you, just as you are, right now.
But my photography isn’t for everyone. I don’t do formal, posed portraits.
I’m not interested in just capturing static, traditional images of you. As a former journalist, I really want to tell YOUR story. I want to truly celebrate everything that makes you unique.
Scroll on down and let me tell you about what a session with me looks like, why you'll love them, and what you'll get from them. I promise, it's worth it.
“Kirsty’s photoshoots are an absolute joy. If you’re thinking about whether or not to book a shoot then stop - just do it.
I promise you, you won’t regret it.” ~ Kate
A good photograph might make you smile. But a great photograph? A great photograph will make you FEEL.
Whenever I pick up my camera, I'm aiming to create art that evokes emotion.
Do I need you to look at the camera? Nope. I just want you to enjoy the moment, with your family, while I capture the magic.
What to expect
You and your family are unique and it is important to me that your individuality shines through in your images. Prior to the session, I ask you to fill in a questionnaire with some details about you, what you are like and the things you like to do together. I spend a good deal of time planning my sessions before I actually meet you.
I tend to do my newborn sessions in the morning as this is when everyone is most relaxed and the baby is less likely to be too tired and hungry. I ask you to block off two hours for your newborn session to ensure things are relaxed and stress-free.
I’m a lifestyle photographer, so I really want to capture lots of photos of you with the newest member of your family. I do not need your baby to be awake. If the baby is sleeping, I take photos of them asleep. If they are awake, we capture lots of lovely interactions with you and your tiny bundle. We take breaks for feeding and nappy changes and I make sure you are all feeling comfortable and relaxed!
Are there older siblings around? I try to make sure that toddlers and older children are having fun and I devote a lot of attention to them. I make sure to introduce myself to them and explain what I am going to do (this is where knowing about their favourite things from the questionnaire comes in very handy). We'll spend a relaxed 90 minutes to 2 hours having fun in your home while I capture precious memories for you.
Frequently asked questions...
How do we book?
The first thing you need to do is decide when you would like your session. Some people want to have it in the first 10-14 days when the baby is super tiny and still has that adorable newborn curl, other people prefer to have a session closer to the 3 or 4 week mark when things have settled down a bit. Newborn sessions are available to babies aged up to 8 weeks old.
If you are booking your session before your baby arrives, I make sure to keep some flexibility in my calendar for the four weeks around your chosen date (as we obviously have no idea when the baby will arrive), and then just wait on your call once your little one is here to firm up the date and time!
What if the baby is crying or my children won’t pose for the camera?
Making sure that you and your baby are happy is my top priority. If your little one is upset and needs comforting, feeding or changing then that is what we will do.
If your toddler or child isn’t happy about having the camera around, I never force them to sit still and smile at me. Instead I’ll encourage them to play a game or engage in an activity they want to do. I promise, by the end of my session, you’ll have photos of them you’ll treasure for a lifetime.
I don’t want your children to be anything other than themselves infront of my camera. I don’t need them to sit still, say ‘cheese’ or ‘be good’, I have a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old who point-blank refuse to pose for me, I’ve become an expert in taking photos on the run and I have a lot of tricks to make sure that I get those lovely, connected family photos that you are after.
Toddler tantrums and momentary meltdowns routinely happen at almost every single session I have (and sometimes that's just the dads!)
It’s my job to make sure you get the kinds of photos you see in my portfolio and I never want you to worry if your child or baby becomes upset. If it happens, we’ll take a break, distract them and make sure they are happy before continuing. I always recommend having a snack and a favourite toy on hand for older children for this very purpose.
When will we get our photos?
Every single photo you see in your final gallery has been custom-edited by me in my own style. I do both colour and black and white edits (where possible). It takes me around 10 hours to edit each gallery.
I work very hard to ensure I never have a backlog of editing to do. This means that I can start work on your gallery almost as soon as our session is finished and I aim to get your photo gallery to you within 10 days.
Your gallery is then live for two weeks so that you can choose your favourite photos. You will also have an opportunity to upgrade your package at this point if you wish to.
I order your fine art prints, framed photos and albums from a professional photography lab which utilises the highest quality inks and paper. Therefore your products can take up to four weeks to get to me once I have ordered them.
"The photoshoot was beyond my wildest expectations. Kirsty was brilliant with my raucous toddler, with endless patience & so many cute ways to get her engaged with the camera. This woman is a magician! You absolutely won’t be disappointed.” ~ Sue
In order to book your session with me, I ask for a deposit to secure your chosen date and time. If you are booking while pregnant, I will pencil in your chosen dates and the deposit is payable once your baby has arrived.
The deposit fee is £100 for sessions booked during the week and £130 for sessions booked on the weekend.
Then you need to decide which package you would like. Please note that the package fee is payable in addition to the deposit.
The package fee (detailed below) is payable in full the day before your session takes place.
You are also able to pay the package fee over a three month period. Please note that you will not be able to access your gallery until the final payment has been made.
I provide you with a full online digital gallery where you can view your photos 10 days after your session has taken place.
Once you have viewed your gallery, you can choose to add on extra products such as frames, canvases or albums
If you have booked my Simply option, you are able to upgrade at any time.
