Shoots in the City Sessions with Kirsty Hamilton

Hello! Welcome to my small space on the internet. I’m so happy you are here and I’d really love to work with you.

Creating magical, lasting and above all EMOTION-FILLED memories for families is pretty much what I live for.

If we are going to work together, we should get to know one-another…

My name is Kirsty Hamilton. I’m a mum to two tiny people (Logan, 5 and Calla, 3) and I aim to do for your family the very same thing I do for mine, every single time I pick up my camera: and that is celebrate you, just as you are, right now.

But my photography isn’t for everyone. I don’t do formal, posed portraits.

I’m not interested in just capturing static, traditional images of you. As a former journalist, I really want to tell YOUR story. I want to truly celebrate everything that makes you unique.

Scroll on down and let me tell you about what a session with me looks like, why you'll love them, and what you'll get from them. I promise, it's worth it.

“I visited London and stumbled upon Kirsty on Instagram and fell in love with her photos. Kirsty was so friendly and professional throughout, really taking time to understand what I wanted and even went location scouting for me beforehand! That's professionalism! She was great with my 3 energetic boys, so patient and kind and was also super open to ideas that I had throughout the shoot. The 3 hours went by with a breeze, and for my husband to even say that it went by so quickly, just showed how much fun we all had! Thank you so much! I can't recommend Kirsty enough and will be recommending her to all my London and overseas friends!” Daisy Chui

The experience

Kirsty’s photoshoots are an absolute joy. If you’re thinking about whether or not to book a shoot then stop - just do it.
I promise you, you won’t regret it.” ~ Kate

London is one of the most iconic cities in the world...

It's a place full of vibrancy and paradox, the historic rubbing right alongside the new and cutting edge. It's a city of stately Palaces, impressive museums, epic cathedrals, royalty and pomp, manicured parks, wild open spaces, small secret gardens, red buses, beautiful bridges. It's a city of glass, of graffiti art and skate parks, Brick lane, Camden, Notting Hill, Brixton, Tooting. A city of  diversity.

I'm lucky enough to live here and whether you do too, or you are just visiting, why not celebrate the time of your life with a family photoshoot in the heart of this great place?

My Style

A good photograph might make you smile. But a great photograph? A great photograph will make you FEEL.

Whenever I pick up my camera, I'm aiming to create art that evokes emotion.

Do I need you to look at the camera? Nope. I just want you to enjoy the moment, with your family, while I capture the magic.

What to expect

You and your family are unique and it is important to me that your individuality shines through in your images.

Prior to the session, we’ll discuss exactly what you want from your session, the kinds of things your family likes doing together and most importantly of all, what London means to you.

I’ll then come up with a number of custom-planned location and route suggestions based on our discussion and you can choose the best option for you and your family. Of course if you already have a location in mind then we can certainly work around that!

We will agree a time and place to meet and I will have scouted out the location before you arrive. I plan all of my sessions in advance, so on the day I’ll take you to where the light and scenery is best to give your family a truly breath-taking background in which to be themselves.

At certain points (if I see some great lighting, or the perfect background) I may ask you to pose for me - I’ll guide you on what to do! But if you have booked my Personal Paparazzi service, a lot of our photo session will involve me documenting you enjoying the little slice of London we have opted to visit.

Frequently asked questions...

What is the best time for a session?

As you can imagine, the major London landmarks get very busy over weekends and holidays. I always suggest we schedule our sessions to start at the quietest time possible. If your schedule allows it, sessions during the week are likely to mean fewer mad crowds in the background of your photos, and if you are able to start early in the day, not only is the light likely to be lovely but we may even have some places to ourselves. I have also had some absolutely brilliant summer sunset sessions around the Southbank. These start at around 7:30pm in the summer.

Of course, I am used to photographing around lot of London explorers, so I promise - whatever the time and date - you’ll go home with photographs and memories to treasure for a life-time.

What if my children won’t pose for the camera?

I don’t want your children to be anything other than themselves infront of my camera. I don’t need them to sit still or ‘be good’, I have a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old who point-blank refuse to pose for me, I’ve become an expert in taking photos on the run and I have a lot of tricks to make sure that I get those lovely, connected family photos that you are after.

Toddler tantrums and momentary meltdowns routinely happen at almost every single session I have  (and sometimes that's just the dads!)

It’s my job to make sure you get the kinds of photos you see in my portfolio and I never want you to worry if your child or baby becomes upset. If it happens, we’ll take a break, distract them and make sure they are happy before continuing. I always recommend having a snack and a favourite toy on hand for this very purpose.

When will we get our photos?

Every single photo you see in your final gallery has been custom-edited by me in my own style. I do both colour and black and white edits (where possible). It takes me around 10 hours to edit each gallery.

I work very hard to ensure I never have a backlog of editing to do. This means that I can start work on your gallery almost as soon as our session is finished and I aim to get your photo gallery to you within 10 days.

If you have booked my Single Location Shoot, your gallery is then live for two weeks so that you can choose your favourite photos. And these will be available for you to download for a four-month period.

If you opt to have all the photos or you choose the Personal Paparazzi package, your gallery will be available for you to download your photos for a period of four months.

How do we book?

After deciding which session you want to book, I ask you to contact me so we can arrange a date and time that works for both of us. I request a deposit to secure your booking. Your package fee is payable in addition to your deposit and is due the day before your session takes place.

You are also able to pay for your session in instalments over three months if you prefer, in which case, I ask for a 30% non-refundable deposit upfront.

Some helpful information for your visit

We love to travel but I know how challenging exploring a new place with children can be, so I’ve put together a few tips for things to do with children of all ages around town…

  1. My top tips for a day out on the Southbank

  2. Things to do with children in London this Spring (although this is applicable for most times of the year)

"The photoshoot was beyond my wildest expectations. Kirsty was brilliant with my raucous toddler, with endless patience & so many cute ways to get her engaged with the camera. This woman is a magician! You absolutely won’t be disappointed.” ~ Sue
