In Her Place
A positive photography project celebrating womanhood, style and self-expression in London
If you live in London, love to dress up, have a strong sense of style and want to do something positive and empowering (and maybe even a little out of your comfort zone), then I'd love your help with a personal photography project.
This year I am starting a portrait photography project exploring the themes of womanhood and identity, through the clothes we choose (and love) to wear, and the places we inhabit, in some iconic locations.
Each portrait for this project will centre on the woman herself — photographed wearing something that expresses her personality, identity, or lived experience — paired with a London setting that complements and embraces that expression.
This project celebrates individuality, confidence, and visibility. It’s about women being seen and celebrated for exactly who they are, in the places they inhabit, right now.
What is this project about?
This is a celebratory, body-positive project for women of all backgrounds and ethnicities who live in London.
You don't have to have any experience being photographed, (in fact I'd love to photograph anyone who doesn't feel particularly comfortable in front of the camera, or who doesn't consider themselves to be photogenic).
This is not a fashion shoot and there is no styling advice provided.
You will choose an outfit that feels meaningful to you — it can be of cultural or personal significance or simply something which expresses your personality and sense of style, whether that’s bold, subtle, playful, elegant, rebellious, nostalgic, or quietly powerful.
Together, we then choose a London location that supports that expression and helps tell your visual story.
The result is a series of portraits that honour self-expression and celebrate women of all ages, backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.
Who Can Take Part?
I am inviting women of all ages, ethnicities, body types, and backgrounds to apply.
You don’t need to be a model, influencer, or creative professional. You simply need:
a London resident
a connection to an outfit that feels like you
a willingness to be photographed on location in London
an interest in being part of a collaborative, respectful and above all FUN portrait experience
Whether you’re in your 20s or your 70s, London-born or newly arrived, quietly confident or unapologetically bold — you are welcome.
What to Expect
A relaxed, fun, collaborative portrait session on location in London
Guidance throughout the shoot.
Whether you love being infront of the camera or usually avoid having your photo taken, I’ll show you how to stand, and give you prompts on what to do and above all, allow space for you to be yourself
Selected images may be featured on my website, social media, and in future exhibitions or publications connected to the project
This project is about celebrating you — not changing you, styling you, or fitting you into a predefined idea.
How to Apply
If you’d like to be part of this project, please apply using the form below.
You’ll be asked to share:
a little about yourself (your age, background, what you do etc)
the outfit you’d like to wear (and why it matters to you)
For example, I have a 1950s-style gold, sequin gown gathering dust in my cupboard that makes me feel amazing and which I am never able to wear. I'd pair it with my faux fur animal print coat, because that feels a little outrageous and indulgent and have some photos swanning around in the bar at the Royal Exchange (or some other neo-classical or art deco settings).Or I have a green cord trousers which I'd love to pair with my bright yellow blazer and have some photos among the greenery inside the Barbican conservatory (admittedly I'm not sure what this says about me - maybe that I'd like to embrace my inner exotic tree frog).
and any thoughts you have about locations that feel fitting
The project will take place in February at a time and date to suit you. I initially have space for five sessions — every application will be carefully considered.
If you have a strong sense of who you are — or even if you’re still figuring that out — and you’d like to be photographed expressing that in the city you move through, I’d love to hear from you.
