This outdoor family photoshoot in Richmond may have started out in a light drizzle, but it ended in cuddles, laughter and this gorgeous family of four drenched in warm, golden sunshine.
I have a confession to make - I obsess about the weather in the run up to all my outdoor photoshoots. I have all the weather maps on my phone an I check them about a hundred times, especially if it is looking unsettled (which, let’s face it, is most days in the UK!)
And this session was no different, it had rained during the day but the forecast for the late afternoon promised some sunshine breaking through the clouds, perfect for a family photoshoot!
Did the weather make for good photos during this outdoor family photoshoot near Richmond?
People often worry when the sun fails to make an appearance during our sessions. But I have a secret to tell you: Clouds act like a giant soft-box, smoothing out lines and creating gorgeous glowing skin. And as an added bonus, they made the deep green ferns REALLY pop and brought out all the gorgeous textured and colours.
In fact, the weather worked in our favour for the whole of this outdoor family photoshoot near Richmond.
The drizzle stopped just before this lovely family arrived and we started out with light cloud cover.

Do I need to worry about how my children will behave during an outdoor family photoshoot?
In a word: No!
This lovely mum had initially worried about how her little girls would find having an outdoor family photoshoot near Richmond, during the late afternoon (especially as we were veering close to dinner time).
But, during my sessions, I do my utmost to make sure that little ones are distracted and having fun. We play games with mum and dad, I produce a magic blanket capable of all sorts of fun tricks, and there are cuddles, snuggles and bubbles to be had (oh and mum also had a handy supply of Percy Pigs, perfect for the end of our shoot when the golden sun made an appearance from behind the clouds and we needed an extra few minutes from the girls to make the most of the lovely light.
Where are the best locations for a family photoshoot near Richmond?
Oh there are so many locations for a family photoshoot in Richmond to choose from!
Firstly there is the lovely river walk along the Thames itself - lots of gorgeous locations to visit including the lovely Petersham nurseries (the perfect place for a post-photoshoot treat!)
And of course there are all the wonderfully wild and varied locations within Richmond Park itself (one of my favourite spots for late afternoon and sunset photoshoots).
