This Clapham baby was just a few days old when I photographed him with his two big brothers in a lovely relaxed, in-home newborn photoshoot near Clapham Common.
I know just how stressful life can be with a toddler and a new baby in the house.
But this lovely family made it look easy.
It helped that there was a doting older brother on hand to snuggle his tiniest sibling every chance he got!
What if my older children won’t pose with the baby for our in-home newborn photoshoot in Clapham?
One of the thing I was MOST excited about when I had my new baby girl, was seeing her in the arms of her older brother (given the fact that he was 19-months-old at the time, this was probably an unrealistic expectation anyway!)
But he took one look at her and promptly decided that life would be better if she didn’t exist. So he worked very hard on pretending she wasn’t there (going so far as to close his eyes and edge past her if she happened to be infront of him).
Of course, they are now the best of buddies. But I know that every child reacts differently to having a new baby in the house, and so I never force an interaction that isn’t there.
You can see from these photos that I had one brother who just couldn’t stay way from his tiny sibling, and one who was far more interested in playing (well - what else would you expect from a toddler?!)
But I have lots of tips and tricks up my sleeve and I am very fast with my camera when I need to be! So all we needed to do was ask the toddler to show us how clever he was by pointing out his new baby’s eyes and nose and we had those gorgeous photos of him with the brand new baby.
What can we expect from an in-home newborn photoshoot in Clapham?
My focus at every in-home newborn photoshoot in Clapham (and elsewhere) is to ensure that I get lots of photos that focus on the bond you are building with your brand new baby.
That means no posed ‘baby in the basket’ type photos from me. Let’s face it, newborns do not like to be out of their parents’ arms. So for me its the most natural place to take photos of them. Snuggled where they are safe, and loved and protected. Just as it should be.
While my focus is on your new baby, if you have other children, I always make sure to take the time to get photos of you with them and individual portraits of them as well. I know how important this is for you, and I like everyone to feel special on my photoshoots!
What is the best time for an in-home newborn photoshoot in Clapham?
I always suggest having your in-home newborn photoshoot in the morning. It is when you are the least exhausted and frazzled, it is when your baby is happiest (lets not talk about the 5pm cluster-feeding witching hour, alright?! I still have nightmares about it), and it is also when older toddlers and children are likely to be in the best mood.
My photoshoots usually start around 9:30am/10am and finish in time for lunch. That keeps them nice and relaxed.

It is always best to contact me while you are still pregnant if you can, as this allows me to block off some time for your newborn photoshoot. But I do always keep some week day sessions free for newborn photoshoots booked at the last minute (I know how hard it is to be organised when you have a new baby in the house!)
