If there is one request GUARANTEED to get me excited about a session, then a sunrise photoshoot in London around Tower Bridge, for a couple expecting their first baby, would be it!
And as I think you can tell, this gorgeous duo had me on a creative high from the very (early) start of our time together!
They were visiting London from the USA and enjoying a very special last holiday together before their family grows from 2 to 3!
Is Sunrise the best time for a photoshoot in London?
This might surprise you, but London gets a lot of stunning sunrises.
And if you can drag yourself out of bed, it really is one of the best times of day for a photoshoot, because the streets are deserted.
So as well as beautiful light booking a sunrise photoshoot in London will mean you will have our iconic city ALLLL to yourself!
What happens if rain is forecast for our sunrise photoshoot in London?
Now, for this photoshoot, we did build some flexibility into our diary. We agreed on a few days that might work, if we had the right weather.
And we also decided that if there was no possibility of a sunrise shoot, we’d stick to a mid-morning session and make the best of the soft, cloudy light.
It was really important to this couple, that their intimate sunrise maternity photoshoot was done without many people around, so I knew that a session at sunrise was their top priority.
And of course we wanted the best weather for our time together.
So I did keep an eye on the forecast to find the day with the best conditions for our sunrise photoshoot around Tower Bridge.
What is a sunrise photoshoot in London like?
I always scout out locations before I have a session there. And before this session, I made sure to make a few excursions to Tower Bridge at sunrise so I knew the best time to meet and where the best photos could be taken.
There is a coffee shop open early which is right underneath the bridge. So we met there at 7am, before making our way to the riverside.
We started our session right by the Tower of London, with the sun behind some rather dramatic clouds, making beautiful soft light to capture this very exciting milestone in this couple’s lives.
As the sun rose a bit higher, it broke through the light cloud cover, literally turning the paved street to gold (and making for some beautifully romantic photos).
We then needed to nip into the nearest coffee shop to warm up, before continuing our session around St Katharine’s Docks and the romantic St Dunstans in the East.
