Firstly, if you have small children who are still at the nap stage, DO try and make sure that they have their nap that day.
For older children, I suggest having a fairly chilled out day before our sunset photoshoot in Richmond Park.
It helps if you arrive with as much energy as you can muster!
DON’T keep the photoshoot a secret - tell your children what you are going to be doing and get them excited about having an evening adventure!
If you have small children that enjoy playing certain games (like What’s The Time Mr Wolf or Hide and Seek) DO let me know so that I can incorporate the fun into our photoshoot.
For older children, I’ll ask about their interests beforehand, so that I can chat to them about things that excite them to get them engaged with what we are doing.
DO bring some non-messy snacks for when their energy begins to flag a bit. I often find a well-timed snack break helps us extend the fun and is a good distraction from tiredness or over-excitement.
DON’T bring sweets to bribe your children with during the photoshoot. It’s absolutely ok to have a sweet treat ready for when all the photos are done, but I find that if you reach for that sweet bag early on, what we get is children who will only smile at the camera in exchange for a sweet, and they don’t fully engage in the activities or the flow of the photoshoot.

When is the best time for a sunset photo shoot in Richmond Park?
We do get gorgeous sunsets all year around, but I do think late summer/early Autumn is a particularly fantastic time of year for a sunset photoshoot in Richmond Park.
The weather is still fairly mild and the sunsets are earlier in the day (so more bedtime friendly!)

We did have to reschedule this photoshoot to get better light. But I think you can agree that it was absolutely worth it!
